“Template Installer can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software”

I’m trying to download eInkPads templates and I keep getting the following message “Template Installer can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software” The developer says you are able to release it to gain access. HOW?

We’re not Apple. We’re other users, and other third-party developers. We can’t “release it to gain access”.

If you are following the directions exactly as written (apparently https://www.einkpads.com/pages/help ?) then check back with the developer.

Alternatively, the developer seems to offer an app that loads those templates.
