If you're going to carry your iPhone in your pocket, I'd highly recommend you turn off Tap to Wake.
Settings > Accessibility > Touch > > Tap or Swipe to Wake (turn it off). You'll have to tap the power button to wake up your screen, but you won't accidentally have what happened to you again.

Yes, after an hour you should be able to enter the passcode and unlock the phone. If you are in the habit of carrying the phone in a pocket without a case there are 2 things you should do:
You entered the wrong passcode too many times. It is now locked out for 60 minutes. If you didn’t do it, either someone else did (a child, perhaps), or you were carrying it in your pocket with the screen against your body and you butt-entered the wrong passcode several times.
You're welcome. Had to do this with my sister-in-law, who kept her iPhone in her purse and kept getting locked out, like you have. Once I turned Tap to Wake on the phone off, it's never happened again.
No, it is still a passcode issue. That is the only possible thing that can result in that message. Either someone or something (a child? pet?) touched the screen multiple times overnight, or your phone suffers from “ghost touch,” a hardware failure where the digitizer generates random touch signals. It can have 2 causes; either a faulty cable, or a failing digitizer. So the first step is to try a different cable if it was plugged in overnight.
I NEED to get into my phone NOW and it has locked me out by being in my pocket. Yes, I know, I'll disable the touch to raise function, as soon as I CAN GET IN TO MY PHONE. Please tell me I don't have to wait 60 minutes! I've already re-started my phone, and it went from available in 15 minutes to 60 minutes. HELP!!
Okay. I had the phone in my pocket while I was mowing for a few hours, and I guess it tried to unlock while in my pocket, ugh.....
Will be able to use it once the time period is over?
Thank you for the tip.
The first time this has happened to me, and it kind of freaked me out.
Mike
Will do.
Thank you
Mike
It happened to me too…. I’ve waited and when I’ve entered my code…. It worked but on my screen, my dog picture is totally bright but the date and Time are like faded.. what could that be?
Your “butt activation” also changed the customization of the lock screen.
I also have a message this morning iPhone is unavailable try and one minute it’s been on the bedside table all night. I just picked it up so it’s not a password issue.
It wasn’t plugged in overnight. My dogs are dachshunds and they’re blind and can’t reach the bedside table anyway. So, apparently I have a ghost
