Sleep display but not iMac?

How can I setup my iMac for the display to go off but the iMac to stay awake?

My iMac is crashing when it sleeps, while I troubleshoot the issue I want it to stay awake, but no need to keep the display on. Thanks.

I connect it to an external display via HDMI, but the annoying thing is, is that every time I boot it up from sleep, it always takes about 10 seconds to reconnect to the external display. What does it mean, “Prevent your Mac from sleeping automatically when the display is off"? I thought that computer "sleep" IS turning off the display. So how would the computer NOT be sleeping when the display is off? Sleep and display-off are the same thing, as far as I can tell. So I don't understand how it's even possible for the computer NOT to be sleeping when the display is off. And why would anyone want to “Prevent your Mac from sleeping automatically when the display is off? The whole thing doesn't make any sense. I've already read the relevant Apple Support pages and they don't answer this question. So I don't need a link to the Apple Support page, because I've already seen it, at least the ones that come up in a Google search. Thx.

Can't get my Mac Pro to sleep in OS 13 I have been searching online for hours. I'm coming here as a last resort. I don't know why this is so hard. It used to be easy. I have learned that many people think their Mac is sleeping when it's NOT. When you do various sleep settings with OS 13, they primarily deal with the Display, not the Mac Pro. Even following Apple's guidelines and procedures, they talk about the Display. My UPS has Watt meter on it. I can tell at a glance if the Mac Pro has really gone to sleep. The only way I can get the Mac Pro to go to sleep, is to do it manually. For some strange reason, it appears that the key setting is found under "Displays" > Advanced. There I have found a switch "Prevent automatic sleeping, when display is off". I have this turned off. Nevertheless, I can tell by my Watt meter that my Mac does not go to sleep. I had no difficulties with sleep in (the vastly superior) earlier versions of Settings.

Yep, I have that on but at the moment the screen doesnt turn off. I assume, like a windows machine, there is a way to set it up so the machine stays awake and only the screen turns off, but I cant find a setting for this in ventura.

Look under System Settings > Lock Screen. "Turn display off…"

There is a setting in Energy Saver to Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off.

I don't know if this would help.
