Ipod won't connect to MAC

Although charged, whenever I connect it to my MAC, it says " connect to power."

When I place it on my radio/ipod players, it says, "use itunes to restore." However, of course I can't use itunes, because the minute I plug the ipod back into my MAC, I get the "connect to power' message. I know this isn't just happening to me -- I've read on forums that it's happened to others. No one has a solution. I have hundreds of songs that I downloaded from my own, purchased CD's. Somehow, most of them got deleted from my itunes library. Why is APPLE doing this to us?

Thanks for reaching out Daphnal,

It sounds like you're seeing the recovery screen on your iPod. We can help.

If you're seeing the recovery screen, it means that the software has failed on your device and all the data has already been lost. Your options from here are to either reinstall the iOS software If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch, or to reinstall from a backup using Recovery Mode. You can Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer to sync your music back to your iPod.

Hope that helps.

Take care.
