Why does Siri always refer to my phone when I ask questions

Why is it every time? I ask a question to my HomePods that I am automatically referred to look at my phone! I paid $500 apiece for them to tell me the answer not ask me to go look at my phone if I wanted to look at my phone I would do that.

Please note that this definitely does not answer the question here. The issue, which I have too, is that siri on the homepod mini says "I found web results, ask me again on an iPhone". So Siri is hearing and responding, just with an answer that makes one wonder why siri is on the homepod mini if I have to repeat the question on my iPhone every time!

Hi Mullinsfmx,

Thanks for providing us that information. There are troubleshooting steps available that can help resolve this behavior. We encourage for you to follow these steps:

Restart HomePod or HomePod mini
1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's signed in with the Apple ID that you used to set up HomePod.
2. Tap or click HomePod.
3. Scroll down, or tap or click the Settings icon  and scroll down.
4. If you have two HomePod speakers set up as a stereo pair, select Restart HomePod. If your HomePod speaker is not set up as a stereo pair, select Reset HomePod, then select Restart HomePod.

If you don't see an option to restart your HomePod, unplug it from power, then plug it back in and try again.

If HomePod still doesn't respond, reset it.

Following these steps can help and is outlined in this article: If HomePod or HomePod mini isn't responding - Apple Support

In addition, let's ensure that your HomePod has the latest update installed. Having the latest update provides software improvements for your HomePod that can help with Siri. Here's how:

Use the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to update the software on your HomePod or HomePod mini.

By default, HomePod and HomePod mini automatically install new software updates, but you can manually check for updates in the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

The Home app on iOS with Software Update highlighted.

1. Make sure that your device is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS

2. Open the Home app.
3. Tap or click the More button , then Home Settings  > Software Update.

4. If there's a new update, select Update. If there isn't a new update, you can select HomePod to turn on automatic updates and get the latest software automatically when it's available. Software Update also tells you if your HomePod is already up to date, and shows you the installed HomePod software.

A white spinning light appears on the top of HomePod while it's updating. The update might take some time. Make sure that your HomePod stays plugged in while it's updating.

These steps are outlined here for you to reference: Update HomePod - Apple Support

We look forward to hearing back from you with an update.

Kind regards.
