No more badges on gmail app

This appears to have been a problem in the past, but I no longer have badges on my gmail app on iOS. The app is updated, my iPhone is updated to latest software, tried doing everything restarting phone deleting app etc. Any idea when this will be fixed?

Why do my app badges come and go? I almost always have unread email messages so there should almost always be a badge on the mail icon. But on my new iPhone 14 from time to time all badges on all apps will suddenly disappear only to return at a later date. This keeps happening over and over again. How do I fix this issue?
