App Gmail not showing badge with IOS 16.2

Since the installation of iOS 16 and later, the Badge of the GMAIL App no longer works. When a new mail arrives, the counter is not displayed.

Mail and Messages badges disappearing on iPhone It started with my messages, the badge numbers would not populate until I opened and closed the app. I hadn’t adjusted my badge setting before but I tried resetting them and that didn’t work. Now my mail app badge isn’t showing. I can click into the app and close it, the number will appear and disappear. I haven’t adjusted the badge settings for this app at all. [Re-Titled by Moderator]

mail app on iPhone doesn't show new email count on badge the mail app badge doesn't show a count for new emails. I have hard reset the phone, turn off and on notifications, deleted and restored app. NO LUCK !! any ideas as to what is going on ?

Remove the app, force-restart the iPhone, and re-download from the app store, and try again.

If that fails, contact the app vendor: Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support

I prefer to force-restart when things get weird, and I prefer to include specific directions for the restart as some folks can (erroneously) believe that pressing the side button restarts the device.

And for a common next question, yes, this might be an Apple bug somewhere, but Google is in the best position to identify and then work with Apple to resolve that, and/or to provide a workaround.
