What's the point of handsfree with AirPods if you always have to unlock by hand?

I've seen a lot of questions online about this issue but not sure I really understand the answers given. When my iPhone SE 2020 in my my place, it should recognize my home by now. If I'm asking my iPhone to do something using the connected AirPods Pro's 2 that have to be set up on the phone, the iPhone SE 2020 should recognize that the request is coming from a already connected product.

Now here's what makes no sense but does at the same time. If I say... Hey Siri, play music. It will automatically open Apple music and start playing. But when I say... Hey Siri, open Amazon Music... it then tells me I need to unlock my phone. Seriously? LOL.

I followed these instructions from another thread.

Check Settings > Siri & Search > Allow Siri When Locked. Turned ON.

This still doesn't work. So, is this a defect of software? If so you'd figure this would have been fixed by now.

What else can I do to fix this annoying issue?

Hello Kenneth-J-Adams,

Some actions requested via Siri may require the device to be unlocked in order to proceed. For those requests Siri will provide the response that "You'll need to unlock your (iPhone/iPad) first." This would be done via entering the passcode or using the applicable biometric option for the device (Touch ID/Face ID).

The setting for "Allow Siri When Locked" helps to toggle whether Siri can be accessed when the device is locked or not. With this option off Siri may not come up when trying with the device locked.

If you happen to wish to provide feedback to Apple the best place to do so would be via Apple's dedicated feedback page here: Product Feedback - Apple

Cheers.

Here's what i'm noticing. When you tell Siri to play music, it plays what was last played from where it was last played. So if you are listening to a song on amazon music and you pause half-way thorough it, it will resume where you left off when you say "Hey Siri, play music." When you tell Siri to open an app such as Amazon Music, it knows opening apps requirers your device to be unlocked.

Hope this helps!
