Verizon – 3G CDMA Network Shut off date set for December 31, 2022

https://www.verizon.com/about/news/3g-cdma-network-shut-date-set-december-31-2022

"We will turn off the last of the 3G CDMA network on December 31, 2022, months after our competitors have shut off their networks completely. The date will not be extended again."

I see that the iPhone 4's specifications don't say that it has any support for LTE (5G), so I am guessing that there are no U.S. carriers who still support the CDMA version of the iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 - Technical Specifications

The iPhone 4 was discontinued 12 years ago. It came in 2 versions, CDMA and GSM. The CDMA version has no support for any GSM-based technology. And Verizon was the ONLY US carrier that supported a CDMA phone. Further, it was locked to Verizon and wouldn’t work with any other CDMA carrier regardless.

The GSM version supported UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), essentially 2G. 3G hadn’t been invented yet.

LTE, by the way, is 4G, not 5G.
