iMac 2017 - Expanding memory

My iMac 2017 has a base memory of 8 GB (2x 4 GB) with possibility to expand it to 64 GB (4x 16 GB).

Would the 8 GB remain in its slots and adding 32 GB (2x 16 GB) = 40 GB be ok ?

Or is it required to have same size in each slot (4x 4GB, 4x 8GB or 4x 16 GB) ?

Yes you can add 2x16GB modules in the empty slots.

Mac's are picky and I recommend using OWC or Crucial RAM.
