What have you done, before the photos vanished?

Did you just install a system update? Then you may need to wait a bit, before the albums will again be populated.

Or are you using iCloud photos and delete photos on a different device? If you are using iCloud Photos the syncing will ensure that your Photos Libraries on all your devices syncing with iCloud will be kept identical, and if you delete a photo on any of the devices in Photos the photo will be removed from iCloud and all other synced devices as well, to keep the libraries identical. If you just deleted the photos on any device, check the recently Deleted album, if you still can recover the photos to put the photos back.

Or did you enable the Shared iCloud Photos Library on one of your devices with iOS 14 or macOS 13? If you enable the shared iCloud Photos Library and photos are moved to the shared library, you can no longer see these photos on devices with an older system version. An iPad with iOS 10 can no longer see the photos that have been moved from your personal iCloud Photos Library to the Shared iCloud Photos Library. If you want to be able to see the photos again on older devices move the photos back from the Shared iCloud Photos Library to the personal library.
