Why cant Apple replace the phone if its defective when bought

Bought iPhone 14 pro in Delhi NCR, India. Battery drained excessively. But I waited for a few weeks to be sure. Reported a day before the first month. Service centre recognised the excessive drainage, but couldnt find why. They Reset. Battery continued to drain. I reported to Apple Support online. Advised to deposit phone for further diagnosis and repairs. I won’t be with phone for 24-48 hours. If it’s a hardware fault, advised shipment to Bengaluru workshop. May take 7-10 days. Will need to organise another phone during this time.

Phone is just about a month. Can’t you replace? Why this ordeal to a customer?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

You are not talking to Apple in these forums.

You waited too long. Apple will generally allow you to return a device for the full purchase price within 14 days. That duration varies by local laws, but I don't think it goes as long as 30 days anywhere. Once the return period has elapsed, Apple will follow normal warranty repair procedures. They need to diagnose the device and determine if it can be repaired. If not, they may provide a warranty replacement. Which will be either new or refurbished. You do not get to decide which.
