Allow notifications for app limit

App limit is very useful. I’ve been using it to prevent mindless scrolling effectively. However, one thing I don’t like is that once the app reaches its limit, it stops sending push notifications. I can see why this is useful for some apps. But for some apps I would like to still receive notification even after the limit is reached.

For instance, I want to stop scrolling on Instagram, but I would still want to receive notification if someone is messaging me on the app.

anyone knows any workaround?

Hey there User1601,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

While this isn't a feature currently available in Screen Time settings, we would encourage you to leave feedback here: Product Feedback - Apple. This will let you share your thoughts directly with the iOS development team, letting them know that this is something you'd like to see added in the future. We can't say for sure that they'll add this feature, but it is certainly the best way to share your feedback.

In the meantime, one potential workaround could be waiting until you've reached our limit and then going into Settings > Screen Time > App Limits and increasing the limit on Instagram. After that, you could open the app but not use it at all, simply leave it running in the background. This should result in you continuing to get notifications while still maintaining the ability to utilize App Limits. Just bear in mind that when you open the app for any notifications, it will begin to add time to your updated time limit.

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

This isn't helpful because the whole reason that I have to use the Screen Time limit is because of poor impulse control and decision making (yes, that is my own fault, I know), so extending the screen time just allows me to waste more time on instagram. And I wish I could just delete the app but it's the main platform that all my friends use to communicate. All I want is the ability to block myself from using the app but maintain the ability to receive texts from my friends so that I am aware that they are trying to contact me. Then at least I will have a good reason to extend the screen time limit and use the app. Right now, when the screen time limit comes on, I just ignore it so that I can continue scrolling.

You can certainly let Apple know what you'd like to see here:
