Installing an Update for Cellular Usage:

A. Install a Cellular Update:

It might be prompting you for a cellular update to install. So, go here for that. Update your carrier settings manually on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

B. Update the iOS Using Cellular or a Computer:

Use my User Tips:

IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update.

Troubleshooting a Locked iPhone:

Your iPhone is locked. So, get this serviced.

Hold it Right There!

Being Locked Out...

Enter the passcode incorrectly too many times, and you'd likely be locked out for good. So, hold it right there, and refer to this link: If you Forgot the Passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is Disabled - Apple Support. It would be the one you've always entered. If you do not know it, then look for it in a location you may have stored it in.

No Success?

Contact Apple support:

If you cannot get the above link to work, then contact Apple Support.

Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through.

Updating Over Cellular:

  • To update using cellular, you need to be in an area that has 5G services. Beware that if you only have limited cellular services, then this may eat up costs. So, be certain that you have the services to perform this, and are wishing a 5G porosity. If 5G is seen, then "5G" will appear on the top right corner of your iPhone's screen. Without the available services, it will not work. You will need space, as well. My User Tip: Use an iPhone 12 or later, that is using 5G, in order to update over Cellular - User Tip

To use cellular data, you need a cell phone plan that provides it. (Most plans for smartphones do.) The specifics of your plan are under the control of your mobile carrier ("the phone company"). If your plan does not provide for any data, contact your phone company and upgrade to one that does.

The phone company might want to push out updates to your phone to make it work with their particular service. (Especially if they've been changing the way their network works, behind the scenes.) If there are such updates, you will need to install them. If you need help with this, contact your phone company and ask them what to do.

This all assumes that your bill with your phone company is paid up. If you are behind on paying your phone bills, the phone company might disable some or all of your service. The way you would fix that is again, by getting in contact with the phone company (in this case, to pay the bills).

An update is required to use cellular data on this iPhone.
