How to enable System Extensions in Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82)?

Installed Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82) Last night. Today I'm getting the System Extension Error An error occurred with your system extensions during startup and they need to be rebuilt before they can be used. Go to Privacy & Security System Settings to re-enable them.

I don't see an 'enable' there. Do I need to click (give a checkmark) to all the 'added' extensions or what, exactly. I chose what I thought appropriate. Rebooting does not help.

This is an old issue at one time attributed to an earlier MacOS - has it been re-introduced and Apple just needs to correct it or what? Thanks for any advice/input.

It is disheartening to see how unhelpful these replies are. It almost seems like people cannot read what the poster says, but hasten to answer in order to get some community points?

I have the same problem on Ventura 13.6.1

The message appeared today. The message says exactly what the original poster reported:

System Extension Error An error occurred with your system extensions during startup and they need to be rebuilt before they can be used. Go to Privacy & Security System Settings to re-enable them.

This error message appears at startup. Nowhere it shows a reference to which system extensions are concerned, nor there is any sign of it in System Settings/Privacy&Security.

Not one of the articles linked to in the replies are helpful in the least, because they explain how to deal with extensions that are disabled or that one wants to disable.

While when receiving that error message, I have no idea what extensions are the problem, or what extensions need to be re-enabled. Because it does not say which they are and there is no sign in System Settings/Privacy&Security that something is wrong.

One year or two ago there was a post that ended with the statement that the appearance of that error message was a bug. Is this a bug too? I would like to know. I do not like error messages that I cannot understand how to fix. It makes me feel unsafe.

nathan430- As far as I can tell the alert gives no indication of what software is causing the alert - it sure seems the Apple s/w would be designed to capture that very useful piece of information. That said, I have not yet been able to review the article you referenced (thank you).

HWtech-Which software? How can I tell? (thanks for the security settings link)

Hey there mtnbuoy,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We can absolutely help you look into this particular error message so that you can get your Mac working as expected again. There is an article about this issue, which you can find here: About system extensions and macOS - Apple Support. However, we will share the most pertinent section of that resource below:

If you get an alert about a system extension

You may see an alert on your Mac that says that a program loaded or tried to load a system extension signed by the developer of that extension.
* The alert may ask you to open Security & Privacy preferences to allow the extension. You may also need to restart your Mac.
* The alert may ask you to contact the developer for support because the extension needs to be updated or will be incompatible with a future version of macOS.
* The alert may inform you that it will damage your computer and has been blocked.

On a Mac with Apple silicon, you may first need to use Startup Security Utility to set the security policy to Reduced Security and select the “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” checkbox.

System administrators can also use Mobile Device Management (MDM) to manage legacy system extensions
If necessary, please contact the developer to learn whether an updated version of their software is available or planned. They may also be able to explain how to remove or disable the extension, and the consequences of doing so.

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

Is that software even compatible with Ventura? Do they have an updated version of that software?

Ventura has changed the handling of extensions so you may now need to Reduce the security settings to allow the use of older style extensions.

But even after doing this it keeps giving that system extension error. Over and over and over. Clicking "Allow" and then restarting changes nothing.

Please download and run (EtreCheck) and share the results to the clipboard. Then open a new reply, and press the Additional Text button that looks like a printed page to get a text input box big enough to paste the hardware and software configuration report here, and paste and post that report here.
