Sending an ipad to a parent in South Africa

Hi, I plan to send my ipad 7 to my mom in South Africa and hope that she can FaceTime with us here in Oregon. I assume I should, 1) Erase the ipad? 2) Set up a new Apple ID for mom? It does not have LTE she will use it with WIFI. (Apart from teaching her how)What other steps should I take so that she can use the iPad in South Africa? Thank you!

Do follow the instructions here:

You will want her to create her own Apple ID-- teach her how to do it or google for videos on how to do it.

Other than necessary steps to ensure that the iPad is properly erased before leaving you, be aware that when shipping the iPad it will need to be accompanied by an appropriate Customs Declaration. The recipient will very likely be charged Customs and Import Duty upon receipt.

It may be significantly more cost effective for your parent to purchase either a new or refurbished iPad directly from Apple in South Africa. If intended as a gift, you can make an international money transfer through your bank.

Purchasing an iPad within South Africa will also be helpful from the perspective of device warranties.
