Apple Watch Ultra - Pairing Issue. iPhone out of date. Apple watch requires a newer version of iOS

Hello,

I have an iPhone 14 Pro running the latest iOS. When I try to pair my Apple Watch Ultra to the phone I get the following error message pop-up,

iPhone out of date

Apple watch requires a newer version of iOS

I have checked and the phone is running the latest iOS. What options do I have from here?

I have tried both the standard and manual methods of paring and both result in the same notification.

Has the Watch been updated to OS10 Beta? If so it will have to wait until the phone has iOS17

Only by asking whoever sold it to you.

The clue is that it thinks ios16.5.1 is too old.

You could try restarting it and pressing crown to get Settings, General, About but I honestly don't know if that is possible on an unpaired watch.

Someone else may confirm.

Usually it starts by displaying a sort of cloud QR code for the phone camera to pick up
