Creating samples with audio file in Garageband and mapping to keyboard

Is it possible to bring in an audio file to Garageband, split/chop it up into sections, and then assign those individual sections to a keyboard whether it is musical typing or a MIDI keyboard?

I understand how to use AUSampler to create a new layer or zone with an audio file, but I can't figure out how (if there is a way) to create those samples from a larger file in Garageband.
