External Garage band instrument on ipad won't record midi data on Logic Pro X on Mac

I am trying to record a Garageband instrument (using the piano strip mode) from my ipad to Logic Pro 11 on my Mac.

I can successfully connect the ipad, hear the instrument play in logic pro, but when I try to record that instrument, no midi data is actually recorded.

I've watched several online tutorials for setting external midi instruments, but none use this example, that I searched for.

The reason why I am trying to do this is for simple, "down and dirty" recording of an instrument without having to play the actual chords, etc. I don't know how to play piano, but this method is a great short cut for simple song writing and composition.

I've gone through the Logic pro manual, and I understand the basics of midi setup, but yet I am missing something here.

If anyone has used this method to record in this way, any setup / configuration help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Here is the solution, for those that have this same issue.

Load Logic remote on your ipad and connect to your Logic Pro X project. (I use a wired connection, but you can do this over wifi too.)

Be sure to enable your ipad access for Audio Devices in the Audio Midi Setup app.

Either setup a new Software Midi instrument track or use an existing one.

Choose the software instrument you wish to control for your track in Logic Pro; that you will used the Chord Strip View under Logic Remote to play it. In this example, I am using a piano.

After you have setup the software instrument in Logic Pro on your Mac, go to Logic Remote on your ipad.

Select the track you wish to "play / record" using the Chord strip view in Logic Remote. This will be in the default "Mixer" view

Select the white down arrow in the upper left side view.

The view menu will open.

Select the Chord Strip View

Then, you will see the chord strip view, you should hear the piano software instrument when tapped, and it should record when you hit record for that track.

I hope this helps anyone who is experiencing this issue.
