USB-A ports do not natively support video output, in the way that many USB-C ports do.

There are USB-A to HDMI adapters, or devices that claim to operate as such. My impression is that they require software drivers on the computer. Unless a vendor promises Mac compatibility, you should assume that they've only written Windows drivers and that their adapter won't do you any good.

Given that your MacBook Air has USB 3.0 ports, this adapter might work for HDMI monitors with 1920x1080 pixel resolution. I have no experience with this product or this brand, and am going solely by its description, especially the promise of Mac support (which seems to be hard to come by for adapters of this type).

Note that you cannot plug a USB-C to HDMI adapter into a USB-A to USB-C cable and expect it to work. That's because the USB-A to USB-C adapter can only supply USB data (not video) to whatever's plugged into it.
