Could I buy an HDMI to USB-C adapter for a Macbook Air monitor connection?

I was wondering if I could buy an adapter that is HDMI to USB-C, and plug my Macbook Air to a monitor. Also, if I can, what HDMI cable and adaptor I would need to use.

If you mean a cable that would go from an HDMI port on your MacBook to a USB port on your monitor, then no, to the best of my knowledge that's not possible. And I'm not sure what sort of display would require that rather than just HDMI to HDMI. The reverse, USB-C on your Mac to HDMI on your display, is quite common. Search the web for "usb-c to HDMI" and you'll find a number of options for adapters.
