Garageband Version 10.4.8

So, a few days ago I had to wipe my iMac clean and start all over. I installed GarageBand from the iCloud (as in the App Store that was my only option). Now when I try to open it, the GarageBand logo thing opens up and this is what it gets stuck on every time. I have searched and tried EVERY SINGLE piece of advice all over the inter webs and have yet to find anything that will fix it. Can someone please help me?! A lot of the advice tells you to open a new project, etc., but as you can see, I can't even get it to open up a screen. I have removed it, reinstalled it, I don't know how many times, along with all of the files it stores on the main drive yet it doesn't get past this. Thanks in advance!

Okay, so, that didn't work either, so I figured the last thing I would try, was to completely uninstall ALL other recording software, extensions, plug-ins, etc and try it that way...so...that worked!!! :-) After I got the GarageBand set and squared away, I re-downloaded all of the other programs and software I had initially, and GB seems to still be working as it should. I'm assuming that when I completed the factory reset on my Mac, I went ahead and installed all of the other software first and GB later, when apparently I should have installed GB first. Anyway, it is now working! Thank you for all of the responses, because I was nearly at the end of my rope with it. I will now go and change my review/rating for GB, as I've always loved it and use it often, and apparently I was the problem this time, and not the software. :-)

Hey there ronniedavis573,

We'd like to lend a hand!

We recommend starting with the troubleshooting steps below to help get GarageBand back up and running properly:

Try these steps in order
After trying each step below, test GarageBand again to see if you've fixed your issue.

Restart your Mac
Choose Restart from the Apple menu .

Update GarageBand
Choose Apple menu  > App Store, then click Updates in the toolbar. If a GarageBand update is available, click the Update button to download and install it.

Check device or software compatibility
If you're using an external audio interface, MIDI interface, storage system, control surface, or plug-in not made by Apple, make sure that it’s compatible with the latest version of GarageBand. Contact the manufacturer for support. If an update is available, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to update the device or software.

If the issue persists, continue with the additional guidance here next: If GarageBand isn't working on your Mac - Apple Support

I have a Mac Mini M1. I upgraded Sonoma from 14.1.

Something strange has been happening whenever I record my guitar on GarageBand. It started about a week ago. When I record my voice I don’t have any problems, but when I record my guitar, I get static, a flat line, and my guitar sounds like a cow chewing cud.

Everything checks out. I have a Motu M6 Audio/MIDI interface. I have two Condenser microphones. I have Sennheiser dynamic microphone as well as an AKG dynamic microphone. I also have a new Dean Markley external humbucker pickup.

I still get static and a flat line.

I have been doing the same thing over and over and wind up with the same result. There’s nothing wrong with the microphones, nothing wrong with the cables, nothing wrong the Audio/MIDI interface.

If I leave the problem alone and go back to my computer and try again, I have the same problem. Solving the problem and leaving it alone that doesn’t resolve it either.

I’ve googled this issue, I’ve put my problem on Apple, I gave feedback to GarageBand, I’ve called tech support four times, I called Guitar Center, I’ve called Sweetwater Music. Nothing.

HELP ME!

I have had similar issues!

After upgrading my m1 mac from Ventura OS to Sonoma 14.0.1 - GarageBand 10.4.9 my guitar input from either Fender Mustang LT 40S or positive grid Spark GO will not record clean or be recognizable in GarageBand Chord Trainer.

However, I can record quality input from both sources using QuickTime 10.5 audio absolutely well. Therefore this issue appears to be with the application specific to GarageBand.

I have posted and hope there is a timely solution, and caution all who upgrade major version to wait, or be inconvenienced and loss of productivity.

I still have GarageBand 10.8.4, and I am in a situation. I’m taking a trip to a local Apple Store and visiting their Genius Bar.

When I record my guitar using a microphone I get a crackle, a flatline and something that sounds like a cow chewing cud. I don’t have this problem when I use the same microphone to sing or speak. I recently purchased a new audio/midi interface, a Motu M6. I also purchased a guitar pickup that fits across the sound hole. Same crackle, same flatline, same cow eating cud. There’s nothing like doing the same thing over and over again to create a different result.
