Making AOL the default Email carrier

Are you using AOL in a browser...(?) Browser mail is not an independent mail client like the baked in Mail.app

so not possible to call that your default.

To make change for a default Mail client,

see Mail>Settings>General

there are many alternative mail clients besides the Apple "Mail.app"

AOL might well be your email provider...

Are you using the Mail.app as your mail client, have you included the AOL account there?

It makes no difference what is your preferred browser—Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome, Vivaldi, Brave etc...

This is not possible using browser mail ("Web-Mail"). Does not work like that.

if you click a link to get to mail, it will open your default email reader app. "That's how it works."

The default is Apple mail, and leroydouglas has provided an assortment of others if you would like a different one.

If you want to open a FireFox web page with AOL WebMail in it, you will have to establish your own specific shortcut to accomplish that, and train yourself NOT to click on email links, but to activate your shortcut instead.

Most senior contributors here would refer to picking up their mail online through a Web Browser as using Web-Mail. Its main drawback is that if you have email accounts from multiple sources, each must be accessed separately in to own session.

You can certainly do that if you prefer, but many consider Apple Mail App more than able to accomplish that, and also handle multiple accounts, including Apple/iCloud mail if you use that.

I have about six email accounts, and although I do use WebMail from time-to-time, but I use Apple Mail for almost everything. Apple Mail does every main function I need, and presents a standard way of looking at emails from multiple sources.

I have an AOL account, and have set it up once in Apple mail, and it seems to work great for me.

That is why your desire to use AOL Webmail was received with puzzlement.

¿Why would anyone want to do that?

What advantage do you fell that will get you?

If you choose, you can send all Mac mail through the same outgoing server as with the below screenshot, but then you're relying on a single server to be the only one active. That's self defeating to me.
