When switching an older phone (iPhone 8 Plus) to a newer one (iPhone 11 Pro Max), do I need to contact the service provider first? I am on a shared plan with my daughter and SIL on Xfinity mobile and my daughter seems to think that I need to contact them first?

It probably won’t hurt. Better safe than sorry, they say. Tell them what you want to do, and ask if any complications are expected, and if so, how to avoid them.
