Gen-9 iPad Model#MK2K3LL/A running v.15.5, keyboard tap feedback sounds randomly starts and stops

I haven’t changed any volume or system settings really since initially setting up the device, but every so often, most likely to happen for whatever reasons around about 9-11pm, the keyboard feedback tap sounds that I was accustomed to previously and quite enjoy as a defining feature of apple handhelds and tablet computers, much the same as the OG strum ringtone.. you can’t miss it, they start working for a short amount of keystrokes or time I don’t know.. just a matter of seconds though, between 5 and 15 perhaps 30 seconds tops. They randomly start and then immediately cuts off again. This happens about once every day to every 3 days, maybe longer in between on a good half of the duration I’ve owned the iPad.

Device = Gen-9 iPad

Model = MK2K3LL/A

Version = 15.5 (19F77)

Issue = System sounds

True :

  • Side volume keys control ringer volume
  • Volume set to max ringer
  • No accessories are in use (ie. physical keyboard, Bluetooth, headphones)
  • All apps are forced closed from double click home button and swiping each window off the top of screen
  • Typically using Safari but other apps have produced the tap sounds before
  • Speakers work during video and audio playback (ie. YouTube, Pandora)
  • No special accessibility settings in use
  • 99% portrait style orientation
  • Standard issue sounds, ringtones, keyboard themes, keyboard layout is US English QWERTY, no other keyboards added (ie. Emoji)
  • Low battery mode is OFF
  • Settings > Sounds > Keyboard Clicks is Green/ON
  • Settings > Sounds > Lock Sound is Green/ON
  • Settings > Sounds > Change with Buttons is Green/ON - The volume of the ringer and alerts can be adjusted using the volume buttons
  • System software is updated and current, storage space is 75% full on device, no background apps are stealing the focus or eating up available processing power, has been recently restarted from dead battery to full charge, but battery doesn’t appear to be a factor

Please help, there is no toggle switch on Gen9 only the right side top from portrait being the physical volume keys, which both work fine, when used they give the feedback visually that volume for ringer is 100% with the floating volume indicator pop up, and there is the top side far right lock button which is clicked and causing the screen to darken to black and awakens the device if pressed again bringing about the password entry screen, working perfectly, both physically with buttons, and with touch screen accuracy and keyboard use is always tap or swipe down for shift alt characters, no swiping multiple keys for typing entire words.

Thanks

Ensure that you have updated your iPad to the most recent version of iPadOS. For supported devices capable of update, this will be iPadOS 16.5.1, or if you have an iPad Air2 or mini4, will be iPadOS 15.7.7.

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If your iPad has already been updated to the most recent version of iPadOS, perform a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
