Missing 1000s emails + many sent messages show "No Recipient" sender.

On my iphone, I have 5 accounts I use in Mail app. Have done this for 8+ years. I had ready access to approx 5000 emails, with maybe 30 being marked as "unread". I literally watched the little icon go from 30, to seconds later 12, 5, then 0. Figured it was one of the standard little glitches that happens on occasion. Opened it up and refreshed it and .... no emails prior to that day.

I go home and check laptop. Most (not all missing). Example, one of the accounts (personal/family/deceased father): I see one email from today and the next most recent 2008. Similar for some other accounts: none from last few years, a random from 2015, etc. Doesn't seem to be any logical pattern/explanation. (neither specifically "flagged" or anything). 1000s of work/critical/accounting emails as well as family/friends throughout the years.

Additionally, in my “Sent” messages, seems all are still there/visible in the sent folder, however, the TO (recipients) all show as "No Recipient" (10000s).  SIGNIFICANT: on the desktop, the SENT emails DO show the recipient. Thus making me inclined to think this is something tied to apple/phone? That said, the fact that most (not all/sporadic) INBOX from all the accounts are all GONE from the INBOXs is perplexing.

Hardly anything is in the TRASH/ARCHIVE/SPAM folders.

MY STEPS --

_Shut down/restarted phone several times.

_Deleted, then added back a few of the accounts (both yahoo and gmail) to try that method; no luck.

_Tried to search each account for specific emails by trying (a) keywords) and (b) recipients email address: nothing popped up.

_Sent "help" request to yahoo. Don't see an option for gmail. (I'm not optimistic that either will actually help so would like to figure out a self-option.....ideas??

BACKGROUND --

_Same phone setup for 7ish years.

_Same phone for 2 years, generally stay updated; most recent updated 1 week ago. (16.5.1)

_Always use a VPN.

_Inclined not to think a virus/hack.

_Changed passwords immediately to all accounts.

_I'm sure I did not accidentally delete anything.

_No one else has access to my accounts/devices.

_I travel a lot (overseas) for business and rely on www connectivity and these accounts/emails.

I do not believe I’ve been hacked but??? Rather I think it’s some sort of glitch.

Please help!

Your device is probably not connected to the internet. There are a few steps you can take to verify the connectivity of your device.

Firstly, you can open a web browser on your device. When you open a web browser, the initial page that loads is typically based on your browsing history or cookies. To further confirm the connection, you can tap on any link on that website. If the link opens and displays the corresponding content, it confirms that your device is indeed connected to the internet.

Another method to check internet connectivity is by opening a specific application that requires an internet connection. WhatsApp is an example of such an application. When you launch WhatsApp, it immediately attempts to establish a connection with its servers to synchronize your chats and display any new messages. If you can see your chat conversations and receive real-time updates, it indicates that your device is connected to the internet.

Connecting to Wi-Fi is the initial step, followed by establishing an internet connection.

However, it's important to note that connecting to Wi-Fi does not automatically guarantee an internet connection. In the event that you are unable to connect to Wi-Fi, the issue may stem from settings on your iPhone or the router/modem.

On the other hand, if you are unable to establish an internet connection despite being connected to Wi-Fi, the problem is likely related to the settings on your router/modem. In such cases, it is advisable to promptly contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance.

Check your WiFi Router / Modem for --> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...

For your Internet connection.

  • Over Cellular: contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider). The agency that issued the SIM to you
  • Over WiFI: Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider), the agency that provided the Internet Service on your Modem/Router to you

You may have enabled two step verification on Google --> Sign in with App Passwords - Google Account Help

You may have enabled Authenticator for Yahoo --> Generate and manage third-party app passwords | Yahoo Help
