Ive changed my Apple ID but my computer keeps returning to to the old Id.....even though I have entered it on my computer. How do I change the account so that I can download updates?

Apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them. If you created a new ID instead of changing the email address associated with the one you were using, you either need to switch back, or delete the apps and re-purchase them.

In response specifically to Word and Excel, you should be able to go their Help Menu, then click "Check for Updates."
And if you are on Catalina, there will be no more updates for Microsoft applications… since Microsoft no longer supports Catalina for installations or updates.
I am logged in on the Apps page however I can not get updates to Word or Excell
