Time Machine problem

New MacBook Pro running Ventura


Time machine not backing up an external hard drive.


Any thoughts much appreciated.

Correct.

If that is in reference to it not being able to remove it from the exclusion list, you have to figure out what is odd about the drive. Time Machine thinks it is not eligible for backup.


I would copy the files to another drive, erase the drive, and then copy the files back to it. Then, try to back it up.

Is there anything else on the backup drive? You could use that for the copy. Might be safer to use another.

Thank you. I take it that Mac OS Extended is something new as the same external drives worked perfectly when connected this way on my recently retired iMac. One drive with my picture files and the other backing them up.


I much appreciate your advice but am worried that re-formatting an external drive would destroy the image files on it - or maybe making them unreadable even though they are standard JPEG and RAW files? Grateful for your advice on this.
