unregister airpods

I bought refurbished Airpod Pros from Best Buy. I can't register it with Find My devices because they were registered to someone else. How do I get Apple to unregister them?

Apple support has an article online to help prepare airpods for a new owner.

If your refurbished airpods pro have not be properly prepared for you, it may be best to take them back to the seller.

See: What to do: Before you sell, give away, return, or recycle your AirPods - Apple Support

Eg: says: "AirPods can be paired with only one Apple ID at a time. You need to remove AirPods from your Apple ID before giving away or selling them. That way, the new owner can pair them to their Apple ID and take advantage of all the features — including Find My".
