Single AirPod microphone not working.

Out of nowhere the left AirPod microphone stopped working in the middle of a phone call. Sometimes when one is about to die I’ll use just the other and switch off. Put the right one in and still no sound whatsoever. Not even just muffled. Took out left one and the mic on the right one started working. Put in the left one again and only the right mic works. Take out right one and back to where we started, with the left mic not working. What’s causing this issue? I know it’s not physical blockage or anything because the sound is not muffled, and the broken one seems to be affecting the working one somehow.

I have already checked AirPod setting. Microphone is set to automatic detection. Set to left only causes the mic to not work at all. Set to right only has the same effect as automatic. Have already tried forgetting device and re-pairing. Should be noted that sound coming out of the left is working perfectly. Just the mic is the problem. Any help?

Hello peter3300,

We would like to see how we can help you with your AirPods not working as expected. Let's try resetting the AirPods with the steps in this link, and get back to us if the issue returns: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

"How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
  4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
    • If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
    • If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.

5.Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.

6.Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

7.Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

Cheers!
