First aid deleted my photos/turned folder into a Zero kb file

I just put my SD card into my Mac to move photos from my camera.

I have had this issue before where my Mac wasn't seeing the photos on the SD card so I had to plug it into my Windows computer. However, this time I decided to run First Aid on the drive to see if I could get them to show up on my Mac. As soon as I ran First Aid, my SD card cleared and the folder with the photos turned into a "File" and says Zero KB.

Before running First Aid, I was still able to see the photos on both my camera and on my Windows computer while the SD card was in. Now, they are gone.

If there is any way to recover these photos please help me.

Try file recovery software on the card. There are lots of them, search on the App Store.

The only device that should ever do anything on your card is your camera, and you should use it to reformat the card after each time you upload images to your computer.

You will have to purchase, there aren't any free ones. Most however, will scan the card to see what is recoverable, and only demand payment for the actual recovery.

I have been reformatting it every time. I would like to add that I had just been viewing the photos on my Windows not even 5 minutes before, as they had not been appearing on my MacBook. I was determined to get it working on my MacBook as that is much more convenient than the desktop computer. I even did research to make sure First Aid wouldn’t delete anything; sure enough as soon as I run First Aid it’s all gone. I will try a recovery app. If you have any suggestions of one’s that are good, let me know. I don’t mind purchasing.
