My screen is only visible when I open the lid of my MacBook Pro to approx 15 degrees but any more than that and the screen goes blank

definitely ask Apple, as Ronasara suggests.

It is conceivable (but NOT likely) that the display cable is loose or mis-aligned at the mainboard connector.

Unfortunately, Modern MacBook Pro models have only "display assembly, complete" as the repair part. This could be an expensive repair.

This could be a service program they may tell you about PROVIDED it actually applies to your EXACT model Mac:

Don't delay in getting it evaluated.

Note that they are VERY NARROW, and it is easy to have what looks to you like a similar issue, but does not qualify for relief. That program has a "five years from purchase" time limit, so if you bought when that product was first available, it has already EXPIRED.

Clearly, you have a mechanical problem. Take it to an authorized Apple repair center and have it evaluated.

The 2016 MacBook Pro 13" had a defective display cable and should be repaired by Apple for free.

Just in case...

Every recent MacBook Pro model can support at least one external display. Although no exactly portable, using an external display as a work-around might allow you to put off the display replacement for a while.
