4g connection problem

I have the strangest problem. I have 3 SIM cards from 3 different operators, and a 5g iPhone and 5g iPad.

All 3 sims work in the iPhone, immediately, nothing needed.

In the iPad 2 sims work perfectly. The 3rd, a Vodafone sim has the strangest behaviour. I will try my best to explain.

1) insert SIM and start iPad, no service

2) set network mode to manual and search, and it finds Vodafone network, but can not register on it, it tells me to contact Vodafone. Which I did numerous times

*if I leave it in manual mode, it will never connect

3) set it back to automatic. The place I live is close to the border of another country, so certain areas I drive, I get roaming network, which connects no problem.

4) as I drive out of the roaming area, Vodafone connects in my home country, and stays connected until I set airplane mode, or restart iPad.

This is weird because I tried with multiple Vodafone SIM cards, same behavior

Any other operator has no issues in ipad

iPad Air, iPadOS 16

tpharaoh,

Thank you for those details. We've found helpful article that can help you determine which bands work for your iPad Find the right iPad model for 5G and LTE in your country or region

You can check to see which ones are used by your carrier to see if they are compatible.

If they are compatible I would check to see if you can test with another SIM card from that carrier.

Cheers!

I appreciate your response. Yes, I agree. Its Vodafone. I spent hours on their chat support. I called support. and I went to a local store, who asked me to come to meet an engineer, which I did.

In the end, they refused its their issue. Since the SIM works in my iPhone. And other SIMs work in the iPad. They are convinced it's the iPad network.

I am at a loss for now, although I do know if I drive to one part of the city where it connects to roaming, then to another I get back on Vodafone. (tested again yesterday). Very strange behaviour, never heard anything like it.
