Please, help with dealing with Apple Amsterdam

A few weeks ago, I visited Apple Store in Amsterdam to request a battery replacement for my late 2016 MacBook Pro purchased in Dubai. However, the reparation department informed me that ordering a replacement keyboard, due to its Arabic layout, would take weeks. Since I needed an Intel Mac for my academic research, I declined the lengthy waiting time so I collected my MacBook Pro.

Upon returning home, I discovered that my MacBook Pro had difficulty connecting to WiFi and was not recognizing networks. Despite spending considerable time with Apple support over the phone, the issue remained unresolved. I was advised to visit the store again for further assistance.

During my subsequent visit, the Genius Bar staff were helpful and informed me that my MacBook Pro's keyboard was not an original Arabic layout, but rather a customization likely done by local stores in Dubai. They assured me that the keyboard would be replaced promptly, as the necessary parts had already been ordered.

Today, I received a call from the reparation department stating that my MacBook Pro had liquid damage and I would be charged €772 for repairs. However, I want to emphasize that I have never exposed my computer to liquids, and I returned to the store within a few days of my initial visit. Aside from that, the first time was by them opened, they did not mention that there is liquid damage. Additionally, the second contact with the reparation department they admitted to two mistakes: not fixing the WiFi cable and confirming the keyboard was indeed a US layout.

Considering these circumstances, it is unfair for me to bear the cost of repairs. The delays caused by this incident have significantly impacted my thesis submission timeline, despite being granted an extension. Moreover, the transportation costs in my area have already exceeded my expectations for the battery replacement.

I have already spoken with a store manager who was unwilling to take responsibility for the situation. This behavior is unexpected from Apple, a company I have trusted for quality products and services for years.

I kindly appreciate any tip that help in resolving this matter. It is unjust for me to shoulder the financial burden and potential consequences of someone else's alleged mistakes. Any guidance or advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jay

Thank you for your quick response, and I am aware of that. As you can read at the end I’m asking for any help or a tip how to proceed. The manger of the phone told me the further complains will go back to him. And since he is not welling to help, I need to find another direction :/

I provided a "tip". Contact Apple. There is nothing we users or anyone else can do. I guess you could engage a lawyer but I think the cost would be more than getting a new computer which is another option.

Electro-mechanical devices fail at random, arbitrary, and capricious times.

The most frequent reason for most failures is 'just because'.

Your specific failure is most likely caused by an advanced scientific principle called ...

... 'bad luck'.

If you want a really substantial lesson how this this works (or more precisely how this stops working) own an older used automobile.

Apple has only two boxes to check:

[_] defects in materials or workmanship, possibly covered by warranty

[_] OTHER, including accidental damage

checking OTHER is not an accusation, it simply says yours is not a defect in materials or workmanship.

I am genuinely sorry that I can not produce the answer you want to hear.

It is hard to imagine that any answer we users responded with would satisfy the OP.

if it were me and I had an important deadline I would get a new computer, or alternatively a loaner from the school's computer lab or elsewhere.

FWIW, I thought your answer was a good one and explained the reality.
