Stop Safari from loading a second page by going too far down on current page

How do I stop Safari from leaving a current webpage I am on when I go to the bottom of a webpage and flick up too hard or I go too far down using a track pad? Safari loads another page that it has saved somewhere and I can't figure out how to make Safari stop loading it. I have deleted the history and stored data and restarted Safari. This does NOT work. I've Las looked for a way to turn this function off, but I cannot find anything.

I clicked my iPad as the device, but I also find the same problem with my iMac and my iPhone.

I have a spinal cord injury that makes motor control problematic and I find myself no longer able to use Safari because I risk leaving the webpage I am working on and losing all my work. (ARGH!)

Any thoughts?

Hi Paul,

It seems your system is upto date.

Scroll and go was deprecated after Monterey

Could you try to check if you have added anything to your Reading List?

The way to check would be to either checking in your starting page else

  1. Create a New tab
  2. Check if any pages are saved in Reading List or Right Click to Check if Show Reading List is enabled

You might be scrolling though those pages most probably.

You can either remove the items in Reading List by Right Click and Remove or

Try disabling the Reading List in the Right Click option.

And check if the scroll actions stop.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Could you let us know which version you are on?

IOS as well as Mac OS.

If you are on older versions you could see a Scroll-and-Go option.

Click on Safari -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Uncheck Scroll-and-Go -> Click OK

The Scroll-and-Go option was removed from Safari in macOS Monterey

If you are still facing the issue:

Click on Safari -> Preferences -> Advanced--scroll down to--Scroll or Scroll&Zoom ->

Uncheck the box next to Allow websites to control whether or not scrolling sends the user back a page.

Once you disable the option, it might probably fix the issue.

Also do keep in mind :

  • This workaround will also disable the ability to scroll to the top of a page by flicking up on the trackpad.
  • If you want to be able to scroll to the top of a page by flicking up on the trackpad, you can enable the Scroll-and-Go option in System Preferences.

also:

  • If you are using a Magic Mouse, you can disable Scroll-and-Go by holding down the Control key while you flick up on the trackpad.
  • If you are using a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, you can disable Scroll-and-Go by clicking on the Touch Barand then clicking on the Scroll-and-Go button.

Do try these options and verify if the problem is fixed or not.

Also if Software is not updated, do try updating software on all devices.

Cheers
