Music Album Art Changed to Artist Photo

iTunes/Mac Music has always had issues with album artwork. Yet I've experienced a new problem lately. Anyone know why so many of my albums switched to using artist images instead of album covers that used to be there?

Hello adamfromtempe,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's try to retrieve album artwork from the iTunes Store for your entire library to see if the correct ones appear. These steps can be found here:

"Add artwork to music and video

  1. In the Music app  on your Mac, click Songs in the sidebar.
  2. Select one or more songs in your music library, choose Song > Info, click Artwork, then do one of the following:
    • Click Add Artwork, select an image file, then click Open.
    • Drag the image file to the artwork area.

To retrieve album artwork from the iTunes Store for your entire library, choose File > Library > Get Album Artwork."

Additional details are on this link: Add artwork to content in Music on Mac

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? How many albums did you notice this on? Does this happen with multiple artists? Also, which macOS version are you currently using?

Cheers!

  • I'm familiar with how to manually add album art. That's not what this question was about.
  • Since iTunes first offered this "feature", I don't think the "Get Album Artwork" function has worked for me even once.
  • The issue is that I had the correct album artwork for the vast majority of my collection. I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened or what preceded it, but now most of those albums are using a generic artist image; showing a group photo & not the album. For example, the attached shows a Megadeth album & the photo that's showing up for all of their albums.
