Problems trying to update my firmware on a Netgear Nighthawk C7000v2

I have been having some issues where my router would keep losing connection every couple of hours or so and I have been having problems updating the firmware on my Netgear Nighthaw C7000v2. I came up with a new password and updated it, but now when i go to the Nighthawk app and click on the 'Open Routerlogin.net' button it comes up with a pop up that says 'Sign in to www.routerlogin.net Your password will be sent unencrypted." and when i enter the 'user name' and 'password' i put in the same user name and password i came up with before and after type it in, it just wipes it out like it is the wrong one. Am i supposed to put in something different? sorry if this is a really dumb question...all i just want to do is update the firmware on my router to see if that fixes it and, if not, i will just buy a new router. Thanks!
