use focus on one device

Is there a way to use a focus on one device without cancelling share across devices.

For example my iPad is sometimes used for work by other people, so I want to limit what people can see and block what notifications come through but I don’t want the focus to be shared with my iPhone but then for example my sleep focus I want to be shared across devices. I know you can turn off share across devices but is there a way to do it individually per focus?

Share Across Devices does include all Focus types and there is no way to individually control them. Have you checked if the Screen Time settings would allow you to accomplish what you want to do. This can be turned on and off and also has a Share Across Devices setting that you could shut off so it does not affect your iPhone. There are many restrictions you can set with Screen Time that may be able to preserve your privacy and allow use of some apps at the same time. In any case allowing other users to use your personal device is probably not the best approach. The devices are just not intended to be shared.

No, there is no way to do what you're asking for. Please remember that iPhone and iPad are not intended to be shared devices. When you give someone your iPad to use, they have access to your data. And when you have share across devices turned on, it is shared across all devices on the same Apple ID.

Feel free to provide a feature request to Apple using this link (but I wouldn't hold much hope they'll change this behavior) --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

When I said that the devices are not intended to be shared, I am specifically talking about devices with your Apple ID are not intended to be shared.

Of course the device can be used by multiple people as a payment terminal, but this would not be using someones personal Apple ID. That is the information that you would never want to be sharing. In your specific example of using another iPad to sign people in, that iPad should be using a different Apple ID and the document they use to sign people in would be shared by iCloud to your personal device. That way none of your personal info is on the iPad, but you can still open the document that was used on the iPad and even make changes to it from your iPhone.

For the example of letting your kids use your device, you would absolutely want to set up Screen Time on the device. You could not only use it to limit your notifications, who they can communicate with, the websites they can access, and the apps they can use, but more importantly you would want to prevent them from making any changes to your account by setting it to not allow Account Changes. If they entered the wrong password on that device you would also be locked out of your device as well. Screen Time can be turned on and off on each device without affecting the other one.

For the example of watching a movie on one device without having notifications, but still get them on the other device, you would simply shut off notifications on that device while watching the movie. It will not affect notifications on the other device.

For the example of going for a run, but leave your iPhone at home. Just shut off your phone, since you will not be there to use it and still get the notifications on your watch.

None of the examples provided is justification to share your Apple ID with anyone else. Apple, or anyone else, would never recommend that it is acceptable to share your Apple ID with anyone. In fact, most of the examples provided can be accomplished by not sharing Focus settings and you would set them up independently on each device where you can turn them on/off when you need them. What you are asking for is to allow people to sign in on the device using a guest account similar to the way they could do it on a Desktop or Laptop. iOS is a single user platform and does not allow multiple users like you would see on those other platforms. You are welcome to provide feedback to Apple advocating this approach to using iOS devices.

They are to extent provided to be shared devices. If you think of the amount of businesses that use them for filling out surveys, registering people, filling out forms. Even for example, the Apple Store using them as payment terminals. all example of them being ‘shared devices’

in respect of what I want, mine is literally people will be using it for approx 30 minutes to sign people in, I was just looking to see if theirs a way that I can mainly stop notifications coming through on the iPad but not on my iPhone. I think it’s a feature that actually people would find very useful, for e ample if your letting your kids use your iPad or your phone, you may still want your notifications to come through on your watch, if your out for a run, you may want to turn on do not disturb on your phone that you leave at home so it isn’t constantly going off but still get access to your watch, if your watching a movie on an iPad, you still want your messages to come through on your phone, loads of example
