When I insert any SD card, the only reaction I get is a prompt asking for permission to connect the SD card. However, even after clicking on "Allow", the SD card doesn't show up in Finder, effectively rendering no change.

Does the SDXC card reader appear in System Information on your laptop? It would appear under the Hardware category. I don't have your particular laptop model, but on my older MacBook Pro, it appears as an "Internal Memory Card Reader" in the USB sub-category.
If not, then that would leave the possibility that it could be faulty.
Just to check, are you sure the SD card you are using is compatible with your MacBook Pro's SDXC card slot?

Yes, I am sure. All these cards were used before with my laptop without problems.
I have Macbook Pro 2021 M1. I see details about the built-in card reader. Moreover as I said earlier the laptop reacts when I insert a SD card.
Card is recognized by external card reader but doesn't by built-in one.
