Airalo European data roaming with Apple Watch Ultra

I recently travelled to Malta and enjoyed the Airalo roaming eSIM for 30 days there. It definitely met all of my requirements and performed very well. I’m headed back to Spain/Portugal later this year and I will definitely use Airalo again. I now have the Watch Ultra now, and I wonder if it will connect to my iPhone and share the data bucket while in Europe? I don’t care about making calls over there; anyone who wants to reach me can do so by email. I’m just curious if the Airalo data will spawn to the watch for mapping, email, etc?

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone tried this trick already? Love to hear your thoughts. PK

if the eSIM is on the iphone and works, the Ultra will behave as a GPS only watch (turn off cellular in the watch)

Yes, the eSIM will be on the phone in both countries. That’s pretty much what I am figuring for now, and thanks for your speedy response. I’ll be doing a lot of hiking and trail walks in both countries, so those features of the watch will be very helpful. I won’t really need cellular phone service, and I’m good with that. I have the watch set to “mirror my iPhone” in a lot of categories, so I should still get emails and notifications on the watch as well. Thanks once again for your input. PK

Any update on this thread? I am thinking by about purchasing my first Apple Watch as a more cost effective way to gain emergency SOS access for a Europe trip. Would love to know more about how this went as I try to decide if I’m best going with the watch or upgrading my iPhone 11 to a 14 or 15. Thank you all and hope you had a lovely trip!
