Simplest way to crop a large number of photos on a Macintosh

I have used GraphicConverter ($40) for years to batch crop pictures that I put on electronic picture frames. You would have to export the pictures from Photos, use GC to crop them, and then re-import them to Photos. You wouldn't be able to revert back like in Photos, so you'd need to keep the originals.

It does a lot more than batch cropping. I first used the program in 1990, I think, and it has grown dramatically since then. It's always open on my Mac, and I regularly us it to edit pictures from Photos (with he Edit With... function) or screenshots or whatever. It will run a number of batch operations, changing file names, image formats, resolutions, and all sorts of stuff.

If I were doing this in Photos, I would use the Custom crop setting. For a 6000x4000 pixel image I'd set Custom to 6000x1333. Then I'd select a picture and hit Return->Crop->Custom, Custom->Swipe Up->Done->Right Arrow to next picture. Awkward, but pretty quick. You might be able to write a script to do this, but it would take longer than doing it.

The advantage to doing this in Photos is that you can later revert the pictures to their original version with just one button.

That's great. ImageMagick is still the best.

I looked again at AppleScript, but all properties of the image dimensions are read-only and cannot be modified by AppleScript.
