Mail - column view

In Mac Mail when using the column view, I get only one column. That one column can be control clicked to change the sort method (date, subject, etc.) - but there still remains only one column. What is limiting me to one column?

Thanks

Hello alphajolt,

We see you are asking for hlep with the column view in Mac Mail. You mention you are only able to see 1 column. When you right-click or control-click on the one column header, there should be a pop-up box with other columns you can check. At the end of the list you will also see 'Sort By'.

See more in the guide here: Use column layout in Mail on Mac

Are you only seeing 'Sort By' in that pop-up box? Make sure you are right or control-clicking on the actual column header and not the Mail toolbar. Reply back with what you specifically see.

Best regards.

alphajolt,

Let's try heading to the View menu, and select column layout here once more so that it should switch it back to the standard layout. Then re-enable column layout from the same View menu.

Once back in column layout, try Control-Clicking one of columns here on its name, and see if you're now able to enable multiples.

It may also help to try quitting Mail via Mail menu > Quit Mail, and then hold down on the Shift key while relaunching the Mail app. This will help give it a quick refresh.

Cheers.

Alphajolt,

We completely understand. At this time, we'd like to verify if the same behavior occurs while in safe mode. Completing this step can help you identify whether issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. Your screen may flash and load slower. This is expected behavior for this mode: Use safe mode on your Mac

We look forward to your reply.

Best wishes!

I tried both - View menu and shift-open mail, neither one. Here is the screenshot the moderator deleted from the last post.

Yes, we see only one column. It only allows one check at a time - in the screenshot below it is currently on "Date". Only one item (column) at a time can be checked in the pop up.

I appreciate your time in this!

I understand that. When I choose a view by selecting one from the pop up menu (by control clicking in the column header row) it shows only that view in one column only. One at a time. The problem is getting several, more than one, column at a time. One column sort by date, another sorted by subject, by flag, etc. as shown in the screenshot I provided.
