My iPad stopped working randomly one day and never turned back on. Whenever I put it into DFU mode thru my PC this is the error - the iPad could not be restored an unknown error occurred 4042. I believe it had iOS 15 on it before it crashed. Any ideas?
Apple doesn’t explicitly list error #4042, however, 4000-series errors are often associated with the host computer having difficulties contacting Apple’s servers. Communication difficulties of this nature are often linked with Anti-Virus and/or firewall software running on the host computer.

While you do so entirely at your own risk, try temporarily disabling your AV/Firewall software - and then repeat your attempt to restore your iPad.

This reminds me of when my iPad did something like this to me a couple years ago. I was told it was a motherboard issue. You will need to contact Apple Support and probably mail it in for repairs.
