Bluetooth Keyboard Issues - slow and stuttering

My 2017 iMac Apple keyboard died. The space bar stopped working well. No repair kits for it.

So I purchased a Satchei wireless. Got good reviews. I like it.

Have had it since January. Now, when connected via bluetooth, the Mac stutters and typing is very slow. When I connect via USB, it works fine.

Am running a 2017 27" iMac Monterey 12.6.7. I have deleted the bluetooth setting (forget this device) and reconnected and it did not improve.

Suggestions to fix this?

Hello Lawrence Hammer,

We understand you have issues with the connection between a third-party Bluetooth keyboard and your iMac. From what you describe, you may need to check for possible wireless interference as the cause: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

If that doesn't improve your keyboard connection, another thing to confirm is if the issue is related to the keyboard or your iMac Bluetooth. One way to test is to see how another Bluetooth device does paired with your iMac. This doesn't necessarily have to be another keyboard.

Also, you could test that Satchei keyboard by pairing it with another computer. If the issue doesn't persist, you'll know it's more likely something with your iMac Bluetooth. Once you've narrowed it down a bit, you can troubleshoot a little more specifically. Reply back with how it goes.

Best regards.

Hi Lawrence Hammer,

Thanks for following up. Based on your description, it does sound possible that the issue is with the keyboard as you suggested. To narrow this down and see if we can rule out any other causes, try creating a new administrator account on your Mac and see if you can replicate the issue there. Knowing the results will help work out if there are any other steps you can try. Here's how to Add a user or group on Mac.

Let us know the results after you test in the new user.

Take care.

Thanks.

I have a 'Service' user on my iMac that I use for such circumstances.

This keyboard is interesting in that there are four different bluetooth 'users' that can be used so that the keyboard can be used with different computers / tablets, etc. I have never used any other than #1 until now.

For the first few minutes, user #2 seems to be working pretty well. We shall see....

Thank you for that.

Considering that the issue seems to go away when I connect the keyboard via USB, plus the Apple bluetooth mouse works fine, I am guessing it is either an issue with the keyboard, or that it and the Mac do not play well together. I note that I cannot use Mac key startup combinations on this keyboard but can use my old Apple bluetooth keyboard.

I am still experimenting with disconnecting and reconnecting using other keyboard options, but suspect I will need to remain wired if I want to use this keyboard.
