Changing the language of Keynote slide layout options

Hi there.

I have a Keynote file created in iCloud Keynote by a colleague on her Windows PC, of which the system language is traditional Chinese. She created the iCloud Keynote file and shared it with me. However, the slide layout options of this file are also in traditional Chinese. I can't find a way to change the language to English on my Mac using the desktop Keynote.app. Does anyone know how to change the slide layout language?

Try changing the language in Keynote as shown in the Mac OS user guide:

1 Choose the language you use for individual apps

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click Language & Region on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Go to Applications, then do any of the following:
    • Choose a language for an app: Click the Add button , choose an app and a language from the pop-up menus, then click Add.
    • Change the language for an app in the list: Select the app, then choose a new language from the pop-up menu.
    • Remove an app from the list: Select the app, then click the Remove button . The app uses the default language again.

If the app is open, you may need to close and then reopen it to see the change.

2 When you have completed the changes in Keynote, change the language back to English.

I think you have identified a major shortcoming for using icloud keynote for the kind of collaboration you are undertaking. (Another one I have seen is the lack of support for many languages/fonts which are no problem for the desktop version).

Thanks for the reply, Gary.

It's good to know that the language preference can be set on the individual app level. However, my desktop Keynote is already set to use the system's default language, English. This approach does not change the slide layout language embedded in the iCloud keynote file. (Incidentally, the iCloud Keynote does not support slide layout editing. I assume the iCloud Keynote language preference is the system default.)

As a workaround, I created a new Keynote file on my Mac (English) and copied/pasted the slides from the shared iCloud Keynote file (a different language). This fixed the problem for me, but this was not ideal as I broke the sharing link by creating a new file and needed to share the file again to continue the collaboration.

If you have other suggestions, I'm all ears! Thanks again, Gary.

Cheers
