Opening an application in spotlight search opens desktop instead of already open app window. Happens with all apps

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.4

Switching on System Settings > Desktop and Dock > Mission Control > When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application. Followed by a restart fixed the issue. Somehow the setting changed on it's own

That's not what Spotlight is for. You can command tab through open apps or click on an app's icon in the Dock. If you control/right click on an app's icon in the Dock, you can even choose which window if there is more than one open.
