Is the email account and are the email clients configured to use IMAP? If they are configured POP then the emails are downloaded to the first device accessing the account and are no longer available on the server for subsequent access by other devices.

I know this may seem obvious but did you configure your email to the same account on your laptop that is configured on the iPhone?
