the 2020 response is out of date and incomplete.
Starting the string of key commands mid stream does not help. I would really appreciate someone telling me ALL the commands, in order in 2023 to shut this VERY irritating spell check off.

I believe I found the cause. In Mail>Edit>Spelling and Grammar I had Check Spelling definitively off.
HOWEVER I failed to note that Correct Spelling Automatically had a check next to it. It is now off (Please and thank you god) I hope this works. I write in a few languages and some use some fairly uncommon words and phrases. The constant corrections drive me mad.

From within Mail >> Preferences >> Edit Menu and disable " Correct Spelling Automatically "

correct spelling in mail is ans has been off, yet it persists.
It is in Mail Preferences:
Its already marked as never, still persists.
Is there a Third Party Application installed and used on this computer that is designed to Spell Correct ?
If so, declare , what Application ?
Is mail "Preferences" the same as mail settings.
I have nothing I can find in mail called preferences.

I do not put apps on my machine whenever possible. I have Pages and Notes for writing. Nothing else where there would be typos.
