Will the Apple Pencil 2 stay charged when it is docked on a completely powered-down iPad?

Will my second generation pencil stay charged when it’s docked on its host iPad while the iPad is completely powered off — or will the pencil stay charged but only while the iPad is powered on (whether it’s in use, screen-locked, or asleep) ??

I’m using a 5th generation iPad Pro 12.9” running iOS 16.5.1 (c) — Apologies if my question is a stupid one; I’m going to be traveling for a few months without my iPad and I want to avoid having the pencil’s battery be ruined but would also prefer to power off the iPad if possible; otherwise I believe I will need to leave the iPad on a plugged in charger while I’m away from home and that raises electrical safety concerns…

Thanks in advance for an authoritative answer🙏🏼

Sorry, I know you are looking for an authoritative answer but AFAIK, the Apple Pencil 2 will require some form of power to charge it. Your question is definitely not stupid, but does beg the question on how exactly does it get the charge from your iPad when connected to it.

I believe the answer will be that the iPad will need to be plugged into power for this to work properly as its internal battery / Apple Pencil "charger" would not have enough power to work.

Probably best to wait for another forum member, who does know for a fact on how it actually works, to chime in with what they found.
