Apple pay disabled

MBP 2019, model 15,1


Running 13.4.1(c), so fully up to date. Followed instructions to set "startup security" to highest level using startup utilities (it was set lower). Still getting Apple pay disabled message.


"Allow payment on Mac" is checked on my iPhone.


Could it have anything to do with having Windows 10 on a bootcamp partition? Also, I did buy this second hand from Amazon seller, "renewed". Something to do with the previous owner?


Otherwise setup went smoothly and MBP is registered to my Apple ID and syncing to my iPhone and iPad.

After talking to 5 advisors (2 apple pay, 3 Mac support, the last one a senior advisor) over the course of 1 hour, 25 minutes, the solution was found.


Booting in safe mode and going to wallet, a different message displayed. I didn't screenshot it, so I'll have to paraphrase from memory. The message was to the effect that only one Apple pay user could be on the same disc (yes, it said disc). But it also had a green button to click that asked if I wanted to reset apple pay and set it up on this disc? Doing so allowed me to enter my apple pay info and when I restarted in normal mode, all was good.


I think this is an issue when using migration assistant from a PC. After initial setup of this Mac, I used migration assistant and it created a new user. Since this new user contained my files, it is the one I have been using. Not being familiar with Mac OS, I've left the old user account alone. I learned long ago that it's not a good idea to delete "stuff" unless you are absolutely certain that you don't need it and it won't affect other "stuff".

Thanks for that last tip.


I read the article, the only thing relevant is "add a card" (even though I have cards on file with the app store). When I try, I still get a message that Apple Pay is disabled.


Clicking the "Learn more" just takes me back to the article about using startup utilities to set startup security.


I guess I'll just breakdown and call the Apple pay support number tomorrow.
